Going for the Gold

by Ircel Harrison

Being a minister is like being an athlete (let’s face it, sometimes ministry feels like a full-contact sport!). Ministers, like athletes, need good coaches. Someone with an experienced set of eyes on the larger game. Someone to push you to play toward your strengths. Someone to encourage you through the tough losses. This is what a personal coach provides for you as a clergy leader." --pastor of a growing church

In the most recent Olympics, some of the most exciting stories were those of individuals who overcame personal challenges not only to receive medals, but simply to compete. Key to these victories were athletic and personal coaches who came alongside the athletes to help them develop their skills and encourage their aspirations. This is what good ministry and leadership coaches do as well.

Summit Coach Training is designed both for those wishing to become ministry or leadership coaches and leaders seeking to maximize their leadership effectiveness. As a coach, you can multiply your ministry and walk alongside others as they meet ministry challenges. Whatever your ministry may be, coaching skills can help you to move yourself and others to the next level. Coaching leaders take the long view of individual and church development rather than looking for quick wins. They invest in people and help them to fulfill their potential.

SCT 101--Introduction to Coaching is offered by Summit Coach Training to prepare leaders in congregations and denominations to empower others as well as to train those who wish to become professional coaches. The class is accredited by the International Coaching Federation, a top international coaching organization.

Participants will learn, as well as practice, basic skills in coaching based on the International Coaching Federation Core Competencies. Topics include ethical practices in coaching, developing a coaching presence, active listening, asking good questions, and cultivating client learning and growth.

The fall class will be offered on MONDAYS, September 16 to November 4, 2024, 6:30 to 8:30 pm ET/5:30 to 7:30 pm CT (8 Weeks, 16 Hours).
