Multiplying Your Ministry Through Coaching

Ircel Harrison, Pinnacle Coaching Coordinator

Being a pastoral leader is never an easy task, but clergy have been stretched even further in recent days.  They have been challenged to identify and equip church members who can step up and do ministry in new and innovative ways.  In such times, we should remember these words in Ephesians 4:11-13:

He [Christ] handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher to train Christ’s followers in skilled servant work, working within Christ’s body, the church, until we’re all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God’s Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ. (The Message)

Rather than doing everything themselves, clergy leaders have been commissioned to call out and equip believers for ministry.  One way to do this is by learning how to coach disciples to understand and pursue God’s calling in their lives.  Coaching is one of the most effective tools that a pastoral leader can add to her or his toolbox.

In September, Pinnacle Leadership Associates is launching Summit Coach Training to equip leaders who will guide others as they grow into the persons that God has called them to be.  This training will include a special emphasis on applying these skills in one’s present ministry setting.

“Module One:  Introduction to Coaching” will be offered September 28 to November 30, 2020 (Monday afternoons at 3 PM EST.) All classes will be offered in an online format and taught by credentialed coach practitioners Ircel Harrison and Beth Kennett. This first course will provide a basic understanding of the practice and value of coaching.

Participants will learn basic skills in coaching based on the International Coaching Federation Core Competencies as well as practice these skills.  Topics include ethical practices in coaching, developing a coaching presence, active listening, asking good questions, and cultivating client learning and growth.
