A Personal Word To You

A swiftly moving environment doesn’t begin to describe what’s taking shape as we speak. Last week we were in conversations with clergy groups about how to manage worship safely, while this week those conversations have turned to facilitating worship at home. Evolving, learning, adjusting, connecting, engaging….these are some of the gifts and graces we need right about now.

There are so many things I would like to communicate to church leaders. Affirm your people as they adjust, helping them feel the joy of changing for the gospel’s sake. Provide leadership; show up and be faithful to your calling. Frame the narrative as being church, recognizing we are demonstrating what church looks like to the watching world right now. All of these and more are helpful moves.

Yet, perhaps this is the bottom line. As we live in these tumultuous times, may we remember we are God’s own, created in God’s image. God prepares God’s people for every good work. So, let us live in faith, hope, and love, trusting that God supplies our every need. We ARE the church, sometimes gathered and mostly scattered these days. So, be the church we shall!
