Here’s an Idea:  Equip Yourself and Your Church for Effective Ministry through Coaching

By Ircel Harrison, Pinnacle Coaching Coordinator

Recently I received an e-mail from a Presbyterian pastor who has altered his retirement plans to launch a coaching ministry among African leaders.  He writes, “My goal is to encourage, equip, and empower African leaders who share a common challenge: meeting the ever-expanding needs of their fast-growing churches to share the gospel, make disciples, and impact their societies for Christ.”

The tool he plans to use?  Coaching. He will coach leaders as well as train pastors and other leaders to use practical coaching skills.

My response to his challenging e-mail was, “Why aren’t we doing more of this here?”

As you plan for the fall, think about how you can make coaching part of your life and initiate coaching into your church, denomination, or organization.

Pinnacle can help you to do this in several ways:

First, we have a cadre of trained coaches who welcome the opportunity to engage with motivated clients.  Our coaches can work with you on a specific challenge--personal growth, staff development, or healthy church development, for example--or enter into a coaching conversation to identify and pursue your “growing edge” in ministry. Contact Ircel Harrison for more information.

Second, you might become part of a coaching group.  I will be facilitating a coaching group in October for four weeks so that participants can identify their social and emotional competencies and learn how to use their competencies more effectively

Each participant will complete the Social + Emotional Intelligence Profile online ($50 value) prior to the first session. In the group coaching experience, we will reflect on each person’s personal social and emotional intelligence in four areas--self-awareness, self-management, relationship management, and other awareness, then set change goals and receive support from the coach and other group members.   Group is limited to four participants.

The four coaching sessions (ninety minutes each) are scheduled for:
     Tuesday, October 8--Noon Eastern time
     Tuesday, October 15-Noon Eastern time
     Tuesday, October 22--Noon Eastern time
     Tuesday, October 29--Noon Eastern time

The cost for participation is $250.  You can register at https://www.pinnlead.com/register

Third, you can develop disciples in your congregation using coaching.  Pinnacle’s Disciple Development Coaching © training prepares laity to use a coach approach to call out, encourage, and empower others.  One does not have to be a professional to use coaching skills effectively.

Based on the popular book by Mark Tidsworth and Ircel Harrison, Disciple Development Coaching, this course equips people to draw out the discipleship of others in a church setting.

This Foundational Disciple Development Coach training will be provided in an online format by webinar over ten weeks with practicum included from September 5 to November 14 (no session on October 10). Each 90-minute session will begin at noon ET/11:00 am CT.  Delivery will be offered through the Zoom online platform.  Cost will be $750 for each participant with all materials provided. You can register at https://www.pinnlead.com/webinars.

Are you ready to accept the challenge to grow as a leader and equip others through coaching?
